Our little blueberry

Here he/she is! I had my first doctors appointment today, and everything seems to be going well. Last week I was tempted to take another pregnancy test because I felt so great, "there was just no way I was pregnant"...well the nausea hit hard on Saturday and hasn't gone away since. I was able to forget how sick I felt as we watched and listened to the heart beat. I wish the Doc would have given me a longer video.

Outfit

I'm on a roll! Two posts in one week!
It has been hard to get anything done today. Not because Gemma is being overly demanding, clingy, or fussy, but because she's being ridiculously cute. Since she woke up she's been talking up a storm, giving me kisses (without me having to ask), and having the time of her life walking from room to room (that's right, walking!).
In the last week or so, she has become more aware of her clothes. She'll point at her closet and say "shirt" and then pick one out. She doesn't necessarily want to put it on, she just wants to hold it.
This is the first time I've put this outfit on her because the length of the shirt has made crawling a little difficult. Not any more! Since I got her dressed, she's been walking around grabbing at her shirt and saying "outfit". Such a girl!

Is she, or isn't she?

So David and I don't agree on whether or not Gemma is a "walker". She crawls most of the time when she's upstairs, because of the hardwood floors, but mainly walks in the basement when she's playing. We went to the grocery store yesterday, and she walked (holding my hand) almost the entire time. So, I say she is a walker!

By demand

There really isn't anything new to be giving an update on, but it's only 11:00 a.m. and David has already asked me twice for a new post. I took this picture this morning as she was looking at the snow :)
So what to talk about....
In the last two days, Gemma has really started taking initiative with walking. She doesn't get very far yet, but she's making attempts on her own. It's pretty cute. I could just sit and stare at her try and walk all day long. She's so proud of herself.
So far, everything with the baby is going well. I have had some moments of nausea, and although it has been very minor, it makes me nervous that it has started so soon. I didn't start feeling sick with Gemma until week 6, it never got "horrible", and it was very short lived. I'm praying for a similar experience this time.
My left eye started bothering me a few days ago, so I haven't been able to see very well, or keep my eyes open for very long due to light sensitivity. Apparently, it's not uncommon for women with sensitive eyes to have issues when they're pregnant due to the extra proteins released. I definitely fall in that category since last time I had a similar issue, I was exactly 5 weeks pregnant too. Weird. Well, now I know. A few days of antibiotics (eye drops) and I should be fine.
I've also gotten a cold. Ugh! Like feeling fatigued all day, feeling a little sick to my stomach, and not being able to see well isn't enough...now I can't breath! But don't worry, I'm not feeling sorry for myself hahahaha. I really can't complain though, every time I sneeze, I get a "bess you!" from a sweet 14 month old. How can that not make me feel better?!
I'm finally starting to get excited about another baby. I'm a little overwhelmed with all the projects that need to be done before September (which doesn't seem that far away), but I'm looking forward to meeting our second kiddo!
We won't be finding out the sex of the baby this time either. I know it makes planning and preparing a little more difficult, but I love the excitement and anticipation of waiting until the birth. Girl or Boy, we will be thrilled. Maybe it will be both....Ha! NO!

New Stuff

Well, Gemma still isn't a full fledged walker yet, but she's getting there. She still crawls more than she walks, but she's getting more and more confident by the day. Her first set of molars on top and bottom are finally in. This may not seem like a very big deal to some of you, but believe me, I'm thrilled! She can be pretty demanding while she's teething :)
Her vocabulary continues to amaze us. She communicates mostly with words now. These are my current favorites: bobby (mommy), elbo (elmo), and opi (open).

The most important development...Gemma is going to be a big sister! Definitely a surprise. David and I had been talking about when we wanted another baby, and it was probably going to be soon, but we definitely weren't expecting it to be this soon. David is really excited....I'm getting there. According to my calculations, ETA is September 20th, we'll know for sure after my first appointment (Feb 9th). I know, I know...I can't believe I'm going to be pregnant for the whole summer either. HA! Let's all pray for a mild summer this year. Gemma obviously is unaware of what's going on, or that her world is going to completely change come September, but in the mean time she's having fun saying "sister". I'll definitely keep everyone updated along the way.

We have an almost walker

We had a major event last night :) Gemma took her first steps, 4 to be exact!
She has been great at standing on her own for quite a while, but every time we ask her to walk towards us, she takes that as her cue to sit down and crawl. Well Nana and Papa were over for dinner last night, and she was standing by Papa holding on to his leg. She was wanting me to hold her so Papa helped her walk towards me but let go after a couple of steps. I assumed she would do what she always does and sit down, but instead she took a step, balanced a little, and then took three more slow steps until she reached me. We all held our breath while she made her move, and burst out in cheer the second she made it. It startled her a little but she quickly realized the attention was on her...so she of course cheered too.
She took another 5 steps today!! I desperately tried to get her on camera but this was the best I could do. I'm sure in a few weeks, walking will be yesterdays news and I'll be desperately trying to get some other cute thing on camera. Until then...this is too fun!!
